Title: Starcrossed
Author: Josephine Angelini
Rating: 4.5 Stars
I truly enjoyed this book. So much so, that I'm considering re-reading as soon as possible! The concept of this book being starcrossed lovers involved in Greek mythology was certainly a winning point for me. Although, it is quite common for authors to use the Greek gods as a basis for their story, this book was executed beautifully.
The characters are overall very loveable. The main female protagonist in this book - Helen Hamilton- was slightly difficult to relate to in first few chapters, but after that she truly shows her colours and even though she is not as fierce as other protagonists of young adult novels , you respect her courageous attitude none the less. My other favourite character had to be the male lead, Lucas Delos. He is witty, charming and has a few seductive one liners that leave you more than a little light headed.
The general world building of the underworld was fantastic, I really loved how the author captured the vast barren wasteland, this helped create a darker atmosphere when Helen was facing torment. I loved the development Helen went through while she pushed through the torture, her strength only grows.
Another aspect of this book that I adored was the pace. Within the first few chapters there is immediate action! The action continues to make suprise appearances through the plot and then throws an unpredictable twist in to finish it off.
Overall, this book was great, off to start the second book in the series as soon as possible.
